As part of our mitigation measures to address water scarcity among families in Githiga and Marmanet Wards in Laikipia West of Laikipia County-Kenya, Diocese of Nyahururu WASH Program has embarked in another phase of drilling four (4) more boreholes; two in Githiga Ward (at Our Lady of Consolata Catholic Church & Holy Eucharist Makutano Catholic Church of Ngarua Parish) and the other Two in Marmanet Ward (at Mary of Fatima Mung’etho Catholic Church of Marmanet Catholic Parish & Our Lady Lourdes Ol’ngarua Catholic Church of Mochongoi Catholic Parish ) in addition to those earlier developed and functional. Children and women have been journeying long distances for water hence a compromise to sanitation and hygiene practices due to lack of sufficient water. This as well has an association to sanitation and hygiene related diseases. With support from Cross Catholic Outreach (CCO), these communities shall be relieved with improved access to safe, reliable and wholesome water once this projects are completed and fully equipped. As a result, the communities shall strengthen their sanitation & hygiene practices through positive behavior change. The communities felt a sign of relief with hope of positive outcome. The program targets to have provided 21 water points that shall serve over 1500 households per site with approximately a total of 12,500 people across churches, institutions and households by June 2026.
