Uraia Trust is committed to making a major contribution to developing an informed and educated citizenry in Kenya that addresses its contextual realities, and which then leads on to that citizenry being engaged in various reform activities at various levels. Caritas Nyahururu is implementing this governance program in parts of Laikipia county, Githiga and Sosian Wards. The program commenced in the year 2019 through to 2021. It resumed in July 2022 and again closed in the month of May 2024. Recently, the program was extended for six months from October 2024 to March 2025.
Caritas Nyahururu is working with women, children, youth, persons living with disabilities and the governance institution with a common aim of promoting democratic governance and human rights; aiming to enhance different community involvement in peace and conflict transformation, good governance, respect of human right and environmental conservation through research, awareness creation, advocacy and capacity building initiatives.
EXPECTED OUTCOME
Increased responsiveness and accountability in public spaces in Laikipia County.
This is being achieved through:
- Strengthened citizen engagement in governance processes in Laikipia County.
- Strengthened citizen initiatives to monitor service delivery in Laikipia County.
- Strengthened citizen engagement in Public Finance Management in Laikipia County.
