As part of the Diocese of Nyahururu WASH program interventions on environmental stewardship, a clean cooking training was conducted to men, women and youth as ‘environmental champions’ within the WPA at Kiambogo Sub-location. The ‘champions’ represented the 13 communities within the area to champion this environmental conservation option among 1541 households.
This training was informed by the consistent deforestation practices degrading the environment through the use of firewood at household level.
The program focus was to empower the communities with skills to use alternative technology beneficial to the environment and the health of community at large due to less emission of smoke to the environment.
From this intervention, was beyond knowledge transfer to practical demonstration through hands on making of the different types of jikos for sustainability and ownership as a result of this initiative for vulnerable households.
