This year’s World Environment Day (WED), commemorated on 5th June, 2026, carried the main theme “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.” The global focus centered on the climate crisis and solutions, recognizing that meaningful solutions can only be achieved through collaboration among the diverse individuals, communities and organizations that share and depend on this environment.
As the Diocese of Nyahururu WASH Program, supported by Cross Catholic Outreach, we prioritize Environmental Stewardship as one of our key thematic areas. This provides us with a vital platform to deliver essential information to communities within our program area about the importance of being good stewards of natural resources, while also offering practical solutions on how to make the environment a better place for all.
This year’s commemoration took place at Kiwanja Day Senior School, located in Githiga Ward, Ndindika Sub-location. Together with the participating communities, the Diocese of Nyahururu WASH Program successfully planted over 800 tree seedlings, demonstrating our collective commitment to environmental restoration and climate action.
