Through our Diocese of Nyahururu WASH program, supported by Cross Catholic Outreach, the Parish Priest of St. Augustine Catholic Parish, Muhotetu, of the Catholic Diocese of Nyahururu, among other church leaders from different faiths, joined the youth in a 2,500-tree planting session, an important environmental stewardship initiative that the Church uses to engage and empower young people in caring for God’s creation. This helps address environmental challenges such as climate change, deforestation, soil erosion, and water scarcity while promoting responsible and community service practices among youth.
Through church-led youth programs, young people participate in planting and nurturing trees in schools, church compounds, homes, and public spaces. This not only improves the environment but also builds discipline, teamwork, and a sense of ownership in protecting natural resources.
The Church ensures the provision of environmental education, spiritual guidance, and practical opportunities for youth involvement. By linking tree planting to the Christian responsibility of stewardship, the Church has enabled young people to understand that caring for the environment is part of their faith and service to society.
In conclusion, tree planting as a youth initiative through the Church promotes environmental conservation, faith-based action, and youth empowerment, helping to build a greener and more responsible community.
